Why LGBT Golf?

The world’s first LGBT+ golf platform outside California, led by an openly gay male PGA Professional.

LGBT Golf exists to create a more welcoming route into the game for LGBT+ people — combining community, connection and professional coaching.

Golf can still feel traditional, intimidating or closed off, especially when you do not see yourself represented. LGBT Golf offers a space where people can learn, play, improve and belong without having to explain who they are.

Founded and led by Gary Shaw, an openly gay PGA Professional, LGBT Golf brings together inclusive community and high-quality coaching in a relaxed, supportive environment.

The aim is simple: help more LGBT+ people feel at home in golf.

Through coaching-led, identity-safe environments, I support LGBT+ golfers to participate, improve, and belong — without lowering performance standards or compromising the traditions of the game.

All programmes are designed and delivered by PGA Professional Gary Shaw.

Coaching

Sessions are led by PGA Professional Gary Shaw, combining clear golf coaching with a calm, supportive environment. The aim is to help players improve while feeling comfortable, included and respected.

Certification – Coming Soon

LGBT Golf will help clubs, academies and organisations create more welcoming, identity-safe environments. The certification will offer a practical framework for inclusive, coaching-led delivery while supporting the standards and traditions of the game.

Beginnings: From Ireland to London

LGBT Golf grew from Gary Shaw’s work creating inclusive coaching environments in Ireland and the UK.

In 2022, Gary launched Inclusive Golf in County Kildare — a Golf Ireland-supported programme providing structured, supportive coaching for young golfers with additional needs. After moving to London, that same coaching-led approach evolved into LGBT Golf: a community built around inclusion, connection and professional coaching.
